Okay, so I admit it. I have an obsession with clocks. Watches. Digital time displays. Anything that is capable of telling the exact time of day, even with weird designs like a clock that tells time via marbles. I especially like mechanical clocks and watches the most -- while they're not as accurate as their quartz-powered brethren, I'm fascinated by how their gears and escapement mechanisms work for their own attempt at time accuracy. If I'm going to own another mechanical watch, I'd want one that clearly exposes its internal mechanism, so I can see all those little gears spinning.
I prefer a gliding second hand, as opposed to the usual second hand that jerks every one second, as seen in most quartz-powered clocks. My parents currently have such a clock in their bedroom. The gliding motion just looks more graceful. I read that Seiko invented mechanical watches with electromagnetic escapement, which they called the "Spring Drive", which also makes the second hand move gracefully.
I wish analog-display clocks would also have an "AM/PM" indicator.
Anyways, back to topic. I created this time display way back in February 2012, but I've been reluctant to share it with everyone. The clockface is too simple, I know. Actually, I was more towards tinkering with ActionScript 3.0 and I read online tutorials regarding how to make a working analog time display out of it. Technically, I could make fantastic designs out of it, but that would take a while to finish.
That's interesting. Many people like the clock devices.. it's like a symbol of the human being, the hability to count time ^^ I do also find it interesting.. In fact, I have a pocket Watch myself ^^
the sliding mechanism you said do look interesting.. but it's weird to imagine a clock without the "Tic Tac" I once found a very nice model.. It had only the pointers, no display, so you could put it in the wall and decorate with whatever you wished to represent the hours. =]
oh, anyway.. there are a few non-usual models that have 24 instead of 12 hours, so the AM/PM wouldn't be needed
If I have the money, I would've become a clock and watch collector myself. I like staring at the way these timepieces work.
I have a mechanical watch that, along with the usual 12-hour hour hand, also has a 24-hour complication at the bottom, pretty much at the same location as that clock display I did here. Too bad this watch is broken now. (And sending it for repairs is expensive.) My parents bought that watch for my 23rd birthday.
I've seen even more bizarre clock and watch designs all over the Internet, all of them look fantastic. For example, every mechanical watch ever made by Urwerk, which tells time via revolving satellites instead of the usual hour and minute hands. There are also some novelty mechanical watch movements created by various watchmaker companies just to show-off their mad watchmaking skills, like Tag Heuer's Mikrogirder 2000. Some of these watches were so mind-blowing in their concept, they were never even meant to be commercially available to the public.
This kinda reminds me of when I was watching one of Legendary frog's flash movies featuring Ark and Kari. I still see that clock that operates in real time, same as this. I never thought it would work the same way exactly.
but one sure thing - that's one, beautiful clock. on the design and smoothness and all.

hnn.. interesting, I didn't about those exotic watchs..
It's almost hard to read them! o.o
